Understanding YOUR marketplace.

What is a marketplace? If you are anything like me, you probably imagine a bunch of stalls at a flea market or a bazaar or something like that. Well, this is true, but we are missing the crucial part of this.

The market is filled with humans, and humans are in motion.

They have goals and aspirations. It is our job to help them achieve thier goals!

Let's think of marketing as being in a race where everyone is aiming for the same goal. This race is the marketplace, and the runners are the individuals or businesses seeking success. For this example, let's say winning the race is to hit $1,000,000 in sales.

The marketplace is diverse. Some runners are at the starting line, some are halfway through, and others are near the finish. They all want to reach the same finish line but are using different methods or "vehicles" to get there, such as real estate, stocks, eCommerce, and so on.

As marketers, our job is to position ourselves strategically in this race and offer the right solutions at the right time to the right people. Here's how:

  1. Identify the Runner (The Right Person): Understand who you want to serve. What are their goals? Do they have the resources to achieve those goals? Are their needs being met?

  1. Offer the Vehicle (The Right Offer/Message): What can you offer to help them reach their goals faster? Understanding their past experiences and preferred strategies can help tailor your offer.

  1. Understand the Race (The Right Time): Know where your potential customers are in their journey. Have they just started or are they already making significant progress?

Once Identified…

Your content, which is your communication with these runners, should aim to do three things:

  1. Show that you see them, understand their journey, and genuinely care about their success.

  2. Convince them that your vehicle (product or service) is superior to others in the market.

  3. Share actionable content on how your vehicle can help them reach their goals faster.

So, as you craft your marketing content, remember to focus on the runner, the vehicle, and the race. This is how you set yourself apart in the market and drive results through direct response marketing.
